FreeBSD/UNIX stuff.
Cycling information and maintenance guides
- Sheldon Brown's site This guy knows an awful lot about bikes, and shares it in a very good & readable format on his site. You can also source many parts from Sheldon's bike shop, in the US.
- Byer Cycles, Bedfordshire UK. A good bike shop that carries a lot of parts, most listed online. Takes phone or mail order only, but great service this way, and very fast.
- Utah Mountain Biking Even though I don't have a mountain bike, a lot of the 'fix-it' guides still apply.
- Shimano reference sheets Found this useful for reading up on some of my older Shimano parts. Electronic copies of shimano part sheets.
- Bicycling life Biking advocacy, road safety & behaviour guides, as well as a useful howto section.
- The Third Hand another online bike parts shop in the US. Carries a wide stock.

Non-specific UNIX Reference
Useful Books
or more specifically, books that I have found useful
- UNIX power tools. This book has many varied hints & tricks, to show the reader. Also a good guide to several things UNIX users should already know.
- UNIX hints and hacks. Not so much "a hints and hacks" book, but a book that shows the reader how to get the same result by very many different approaches and methods. Also AT&T/BSD aware.
- The awk programming language. Expensive, but a good guide to a powerful tool.
- C++ Primer. A good book on a complex and/or varied language.
- Applied Operating System Concepts, or just about any book by Silberschatz. Insightful and interesting theory that is kept current.
- Learning JAVA. A good all-round approach to Java™ programming, currently reflecting the current (at time of writing) JDK™1.3.
- 253. An interactive hypertext novel.
Travel
involving how to get away (usually from the UK), not where to go.
- Bargain Flights, also covers US/Canada departure locations.
- Expressflight.com suck, and I am justified in saying this. The *only* company I have ever had problems with purchasing anything on-line. Gave me a terrible to non-existant service, costing many phone calls to their poor excuse for an office. I'd never touch this company again. Email me if you really want to know why.
- Cheapflights.co.uk, seem good on prices, I dont use them directly to book, but to find other travel agents offering good prices. Hasn't failed yet.
- Skydeals.co.uk, good prices, very efficient.
- Major Travel PLC, quite cheap, and very reliable when others fail. (I had to use this travel agent at the last minute, and they were very helpful.)
- British Foreign Office, best to check here before you go.
